The planets have aligned, fate has conspired and all my birthdays have arrived at once, and again the tories are in a tiz.
Easter began with the aftermath of the budget, an interesting one even I have to admit, where Georgie boy really surprised with his ability to hit out on all fronts. Even though it was undoubtedly THE most leaked budget ever, the fact that he was able to take from the old and the young, to the trim and the tubby, was a revelation of the man’s undoubted power. Shame then that it didn’t stretch from the poor TO the rich.
Having no real understanding of what a Greggs is, I reckon it took them just a few short days to comprehend they are in charge of a nation who regard nothing more than a superbly greasy sausage roll and tandoori slice as their day’s high point. Not for them beluga caviar on a Russian oligarch’s yacht. And the current rationale behind the 20% levy cock-up is now that it was ‘to protect fish & chip shops’. Lordy, lordy! It’s the kind of excuse you can only come up with by grabbing the nearest Westminster intern and screaming “Quick, google ‘work class food that is not a pasty’ and get us out of this mess.”
Their dutiful coalition partners have been suitably invisible during this debacle, and who can blame them. In the run up to the red-box day they were as keen as a keen thing to ensure we knew that all the proposed progressive bits were obviously their bits. Much good will it do them as it now appears they weren’t THAT involved in all the regressive bits. Nonetheless , they are still nakedly thrilled to be hanging out with the big boys, emphasizing what little boys they really are.
