show me the money
I still regard the accolade of ‘THE greatest interview question of all time’ to be held by Caroline Ahern in her ‘Mrs. Merton’ persona when she asked of Ms Reynolds “So, Debbie, what first attracted you to multi-millionaire Paul Daniels?” Truly awesome, and to have had the privilege of seeing it first time around as opposed to on youtube I consider to be one of my better achievements.
So, you’d think Mrs. Merton was right on the money with that one as all that matters to the fairer sex is for us to splash the cash? And according to a recent survey of over 10,000 people by Saga (don’t ask!) you’d be right! But what really surprises is how much a relationship, and the quality of that relationship, actually matters to men. Yeah, admittedly we’re more interested in the hot & steamy stuff than the little lady but not at the expense and sacrifice of the long-term coupling. And get this…our feelings are just not being reciprocated.
The survey highlighted the fact that women rated their relationship with friends as their highest concern, way more important than that with their partner whereas this featured mid-table with blokes. 52% of us sensitive souls also stated their happiness depended on their relationship but only 35% of women concurred. ‘My money and financial situation’ was ranked as second by the ladies. Shame on you, girls!
The survey appears to give kudos to the oft quoted comedic quip that ‘my wife and I were happy for 20 years…and then we met each other.’ Boom, boom and good-night!
