The other day I finally came across the true value of twitter. Inadvertently, I stumbled on a movement termed onefortyfiction where users are encouraged to post a story comprising of only 140 characters and I have to admit I love it. It’s sheer genius. For once the digital world has succeed in getting us/me to put our thinking-caps on for a couple of minutes, engage brain, shut cake-hole and put down some thoughts that may get others to do the same. It’s far more challenging than it sounds and really gets the ol’ imagination going.

Here are my first attempts:

“Had it been there earlier? Had it been there all these years? He was certain of only one thing: now was the time to call her. The prediction was taking shape.”

“In just a few short years she would come to know exactly what that look would mean but, at only sixteen, she mistook is as kindness. A mistake she would live to regret.”

“It didn’t matter how many times he denied it or how loud he raised his voice, rules are rules and we both knew there was no going back from this.”

“The dripping tap signalled far more than poor plumbing. Time was short, the evidence conclusive, the diagnosis inescapable. It was now or never.”

“Blah, blah, blah. She had been dancing the corporate waltz for too long. Closing her file, she silently dipped out of the call. Her absence was noted.”

One criticism is that these vignettes are no more than cover jacket teasers and bite-size summaries of what could be but I don’t care. In these busy, stress times I view them as a tiny little oasis of unadulterated pleasure. OMG…a bit of me-time!
