last one to leave, turn the lights off
As a child of the 70s I can justifiably claim to have grown-up with David Bowie. Ziggy Stardust featured on heavy rotation on my Dansette record player and whilst I admit I did feel some sadness in his passing t’other week, it was nothing akin to the mass hysteria witnessed in the media. In fact, if I were totally honest, my biggest concern was that the reality check that it delivered: How old was he, and that makes me exactly…one step closer to my grave!
The same goes for Glenn Frey, who’s going to struggle to check out of the Hotel California, Motorhead’s Lemmy, who’s played his final ace of spades, Dan ‘Adams’ Haggerty who’s undoubtedly looking a tad more ‘grizzly’ than he ever did on the small screen, and even life-long socialist and active Labour Party member, Alan Rickman, who is no longer able to push for Hogwarts’ wizard inclusion in the NUT. All, it appears enjoyed not a bad ol’ life and I’ll leave the final word to Mr Jones: “You would think that a rock star being married to a supermodel would be one of the greatest things in the world. And it is.”
