Several of you have commented on the earlier posting ‘how much?’ about money-lenders and loan-sharks and thanks for that. I read another related and interesting article t’other day detailing that the average British family has so little saved that they are only 18 days away from the breadline. The report found that if the usual sources of a family’s income are lost ie a job, they will be reliant on the state, on friends or on family, within three weeks. Furthermore, almost four out of ten families have no savings or safety net at all and would be staring at an immediate financial disaster. And, eh up it’s grim up North as the average saving is only £260 as compared with £1500 down South. Ouch.
