Could Scotland’s ‘no’ campaign be any more insignificant if it tried. Which obviously it isn’t. Trying that is. Could it possibly be any more self-defeating? Well, Cammy’s off to Scotland later today for another spot of ‘toff patronising’ so yes, it probably could be.

Every week the nay-sayers have rolled out fresh and increasingly desperate scare-stories in the deluded believe this will persuade voters to stay put. Lose the pound? Tick. Give up the oil? Tick. Retune for the BBC? Tick. Not allowed the Euro? Tick. Become defenceless and attract Putin’s expansionist attention? Tick. Well almost. Not so long ago they held a seemingly impregnable lead of dozens of polling points but now it’s too close to call, and if it doesn’t get its act together sooner rather than later, then Britain as we know it, is going to cease to exist.

The truth of the matter is that Scotland is already, in practice, a separate state. The tories (with only one MP north of the border) and the coalition are universally despised and have no political remit. Even if the ‘no’ campaign scrape a tenuous victory, the trend for separation is unmistakeable and is purely a matter of when, not if.
