the realities
I’m with Ian Hunter on this one as he sang in his little ditty, Man Overboard, ‘reality this and reality that, I’ve been there once and I ain’t going back’.
Reality TV has no place in my life and it never will have. So, you can appreciate the dismay I felt when I heard one of our more erstwhile and credible politicians, Harriet Harman, praising Kim Kardashian for being “a great role model as she’s in complete controlled her own agenda and makes her own decisions”. Furthermore, in her own personal ‘William Hague baseball cap’ moment, Harriet went on to describe herself as a fan and avid follower. Go girl.
To my mind, and at the risk of giving the game away with regards to my age, Kim Kardashian is famous for appearing in a saucy video tape, of being initially married to a no-mark for a very short space of time, of baring her bottom in well-publicised selfies to her 45 million Twitter followers, and for now being married to a rapper. Well, call me a killjoy if I don’t feel that represents a great role model for young women to aspire to. For anyone, irrespective of gender, to focus their life exclusively on money, fur-coats, designer gear, fast cars and adoration is vacuous and shallow in the extreme. Kim has nothing of interest to say.
And, of her rapper husband, Kanye West, I shall recount only how he (allegedly) sacked one of his many bodyguards on the spot, for not finding out beforehand which floor he had wanted to go to as they entered a lift, (elevator!), and the guy had the temerity to ask his charge, which floor they were going to.
In reality, the lunatics truly are running the asylum. And I ain’t going back.
